Hotel accommodation supply in Qatar rises 4 pc in Q3, 2021

DOHA: Hotel accommodation supply in Qatar grew 4 per cent compared to September 2020. There were 29,200 keys by the end of Q3, 2021 compared to 28,200 during the same period last year, according to a Qatar Tourism performance report.

The deluxe and standard hotel apartments category witnessed the highest growth with 9 per cent.

Excluding properties utilised for quarantine purpose, hotel accommodation supply and hospitality sector recorded 14 per cent growth in overall occupancy rates compared to the same period last year. The occupancy rate averaged 62 per cent across Q3, 2021, compared to 54 per cent across the same period last year.

There was 13 per cent growth in the average room rate (ARR) to QR406 and a 29 per cent increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR) to QR286, compared with the same period last year.

Sector recovery

Various factors have contributed to the recovery of the hospitality sector such as Shop Qatar 2021 promotions and all hotels registered with Qatar Tourism acquiring ‘Qatar Clean’ certification as well as the reopening the borders in July.

It is most likely that the country will witness a gradual increase in the number of visitors as global travel resumes and as the country hosts more popular events such as the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, the first-ever Formula One event in Qatar, the Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF) and the Qatar Live 2021 festival.
